Silver Award at the 2013 AIPP/EPSON State Print Awards!

I recently participated in the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) NSW/ACT State Awards. I entered just one print (since it was my first time) and was pleased to receive a Silver, which means my image was at award level, above professional practice standard. The prints are judged by a panel of 5 respected photographers.

I’m looking forward to participating in the National Awards later this year! Here is the image that I entered:

10 minutes in the backyard – Canberra Childrens’ Photographer

Today, I challenged myself to see how many different images of Eliza I could get in 10 minutes in our backyard. That’s just about how long she’ll be patient and pose (if you want to call it that) these days. I shot from far away, up close and a bit in-between. I shot from above through the leaves for some framing, and tried getting really low (difficult with a 7mo pregnant belly!) to capture all the leaves scattered on the ground. And while processing the images, I used both colour and black and white to create different moods. OK, so I ended up shooting 12 minutes, but I’m pretty happy with the results. And it only cost me 3 chocolate coins.

Happy Birthday Eliza!

You’ll be seeing some more personal posts on this blog as I transition into my maternity break. Not long to go before #2 arrives! I’m getting pretty excited, and yes, one reason to be excited is a new person for me to photograph. 🙂

However, this weekend was all about Eliza and her 4th birthday party. At her request, we had a cake covered in sprinkles, and treats covered in sprinkles. We also invited a special guest – Milo the Clown! The kids absolutely loved him and it was a relief to have the entertainment so well-managed (by someone other than myself!). Everything was just a bit crazy though – we frantically set everything up before the party and there wasn’t much time for me to take pictures. I wish I could have pressed pause on the day and taken more, but I too was having a great time.
